How to Have an Eco-Friendly Wedding

Your wedding day is supposed to be one of the best days of your life. Every detail is hashed over multitudes of times to make it “perfect.” Months are spent haggling with vendors and service providers to make sure that nothing is overlooked. With all the attention that this day gets, it may be surprising that very few people look into the ecological effects of a wedding. Think about an outdoor cocktail hour and how many paper napkins get trashed alone, and it’s easy to see how the waste could pile up after this day of days. Go the greener route and find a more eco-friendly way to celebrate your wedding day.
Keep it intimate. That’s not to say you can’t invite all those people closest to you, but when you’re haggling with your Aunt Sue over inviting her neighbor’s daughter’s best friend that you’ve never met and you’re already over your limit of guests, keep in mind that en effective argument for the environment might just turn the point to yours.
Keep it local. While a backyard wedding may not be suitable for you, keeping the idea of a local venue in mind when shopping around will keep more people off the road and less gas guzzled in the process. Try to centrally locate your site for all your guests and improve the local air quality while saving them a long drive home
The local point also stands for your vendors. If you have a florist around the corner from your venue, consider using them to avoid the shipping of outside goods to your site. The flowers will be fresher and most florists can follow the most specific instructions as to client’s tastes. The local brewery or winery can also provide your drinks with no transport waste.
Keep it green. Whether choosing invitations six months before or replacement decorations at the last minute, try and be eco-minded. Go for recycled products or those made from sustainable sources like hemp or bamboo.
